Tell us about yourself. Currently, I am a full time student at Samuel Merritt University, pursuing a bachelor degree in Nursing. I am a wife, and mother to my four year old girl. Before joining CrossfIt, I was semi-active and inconsistent with working out. I have joined gym memberships, strength training bootcamps, and played soccer in my earlier years. What made me look into Crossfit was a continuous desire to be stronger and stay motivated.
When did you start training at Crossfit Echelon and what made you pick this box? I started training at Crossfit Echelon last February, and did not think I would love it this much. I have never had coaches like the ones here at Crossfit Echelon. The environment and motivation here is unique and is what has kept me coming here. Before joining I called multiple Crossfits in the Roseville/Rocklin area. This particular box stuck out because of the service Adam provided me over the phone when I called to inquire information. He was very nice, professional, and encouraging to come in despite not having previous Crossfit background. Nine months later that has not changed- he continues to push me and motivate me to reach my full potential.
What sort of changes have you noticed in your body, health and fitness since starting at CrossFit Echelon? I have noticed an increase in strength, especially upper body strength. When I look back to the first few days where I could barely lift a 20 pound dumbbell and compare it to where I am now I am reminded of the amount of progress I have made. Being part of the Echelon community motivates me in different aspects of life. Every day I leave the box with a life lesson, and a reminder that I am strong and capable of achieving what I set my mind for. It is also the best way for me to relieve my stress, I always leave feeling ready to conquer my day.
What is your Favorite movement/workout? My favorite lift is the squat snatch. This movement requires a lot of skill and strength which I still need a lot of work on. However, I see it as a challenge and something to keep working towards achieving.
What are your personal and/or athletic goals in the next 3/6/12 months? My goal is to come up with and stick to a healthy eating and workout schedule. Life is always busy, and right now my schedule is all over the place with school and being a mom, but I am aware that sticking to a schedule will help me stay consistent and goal in becoming stronger. I hope to increase my upper body strength and one day be able to do a pull up and a hand stand push up!
What advice would you give to a beginner just joining CrossFit Echelon? I would suggest to stick with it. You started for a reason and don’t forget about that reason. I recall questioning whether or not I would permanently join after the first month. There were a few times I kept making excuses in my head, but every time I finished a WOD I would be reminded about how much I enjoy going in and how much of a difference it has made in my every day life. Every workout reminds me of the strength, courage, and motivation I thought I didn’t have. It provides me the energy and attitude I need to continue school and be the best person I can be in the different roles I have in life.
