Tell us about yourself. I am a stay at home mama to two, wonderfully crazy, little girls (4,1). When I’m not immersed in little people, I enjoy reading, anything outdoors, tequila, and wood-working. My favorite Christmas gift I ever received was my nail gun. As far as my fitness background goes, I grew up swimming competitively and stopped after high school. I had yet to find anything I loved more than being in the pool until I started at Echelon.
When did you start training at Crossfit Echelon and what made you pick this box? I started at Echelon in the Spring of ’13. I was a member for about 9 months before I got pregnant with my second baby. After a rough pregnancy and break, I rejoined last summer and have been back at it ever since. I initially tried two other boxes before settling in at Echelon. The coaching was what set it apart for me as well as the people.
What is your Favorite lift/workout? I love all squats, rowing, tire-flips, and any workout that involves numerous movements/lifts, such as Fight Gone Bad and Tabata.
What is your Least Favorite lift/workout? I loathe snatches, but I try and sign up every time they’re in the WOD. One day I will feel confident doing them. Also, the burden run is pretty far down on my list.
What sort of changes have you noticed in your body, health, and fitness since starting at CrossFit Echelon? I am so much stronger than I thought would be possible. Not just physically, but mentally as well. I am happier, have more energy, and feel more comfortable in my skin than I ever have before. I feel like a better wife and mom when I am taking care of myself. The community part of Crossfit closely resembles what it was like being part of a competitive team growing up. The camaraderie and support, as well as being surrounded by some pretty amazing individuals, has both motivated and encouraged me to become a better athlete.
What are your personal and/or athletic goals in the next 3/6/12 months? I would love to be able to do butterfly pull-ups, lose the fear of heavy weight over my head, and build up my endurance. Personal goals involve becoming the next Bob Vila and convincing my husband that we need more babies.
What advice would you give to a beginner just joining Crossfit Echelon? Crossfit can be intimidating! Don’t be afraid to ask questions, introduce yourself, be consistent and patient, and master the lifts before adding the weight.
